First fish, what to get

So I've been thinking about what I should get for my first fish. A lot of people have recommended Damsels but I've heard that they can be pretty nasty later in life so I've decided to stray away from them. I was thinking either some type of Goby or Clownfish. Anyone have anything to say about These ideas?

Excellent size tank to start out with!

I would avoid damsels if at all possible. They can get nasty down the road. You could start out with some chromis, a clown, most gobys need the tank to be in a bit more mature state before adding them.

How far past cycle are you? What are your water parameters like? How much rock...give me a basic run down of your system if you don't mind.

My cycle finished about a week and a half ago. I had 50 lbs of lr and 50 of base rock in my tank and last night I added fifty more lbs of lr. I check the parameters a while ago before I came to work and they're still stable. I know sg is 1.025 temp is 78 nitrate is 20 amonia and nitrite are both 0 and alk is 2.3 and ph is 8.3. Tonight I was going to do my 35 gallon water change and then was thinking of getting my first fish tomorrow

Do the PWC and test your water. You may want to wait a few days to make sure there isn't a sudden spike in ammonia.

So do my 35g water change tonight? If there isn't a spike by tomorrow morning would it be safe to go ahead and get a fish or should I just wait until later in the week?

Personally I would wait til later in the week just to make sure there isn't a sudden spike in ammonia. Adding more rock there could have been a bit of die off that could cause a spike. Probably not but it's better to be safe then sorry.

That is just what I would do....

I soaked the rocks for a couple of days in a large trash can full of salt water with a heater in a powerhead to get ride of die off so should I still worry about some of the rock dying off?

Its possible...Do your pwc and test the water tomorrow and see what you have. You should probably test for ammonia a couple times over the next week just to be sure.
