fish compatability charts

Hi all,

As I near closer and closer to get my new 75 gal stocked, I have observed something I wanted to ask about...

The 2 compatability charts I have seen, it says puffers can be mixed with corals with caution and that puffers cannot be mixed with other puffers. BUT, I have read that puffers can be mixed with puffers and most do not put them with corals.

So, is this just depend on the temperament of the particular puffer(s)? I have also read a very detailed article that says dog face puffers are more docile than porcupines and even read a customer on etropicals that has 2 porcupines with corals, etc. Confusing indeed.

Anyone do many experiments with a particular puffer? I have a couple of snails with mine and a smaller clown. I might try a couple of hermits to see if they survive. We were not really planning on a DSB but ended up with 4+ inches. I need to keep it clean somehow

BTW, I once saw a website devoted to puffer lovers but I can't find it anymore. Anyone seen this?

Liveaquaria has one that says that puffer are cautiously compatible with corals and not comptible with other puffers. One of the reasons I made the post.

No love for puffers in the reef community, I guess

Charts are a good guideline but never pass over experience for a chart... Remember, the fish can't read our charts and will not always behave as typically predicted

Cheers

steve-s: I totally agree. My dog, to me is the nicest fish out there. Not sure if I want to buy $60 or more snails and crabs to only have them be eaten up

I guess I need the experience. As soon as my levels settle down, I will give them a head start to pig out and find some hiding places before I release the hound

I keep telling myself I don't want 2 tanks but the wife has been looking at corals alot lately ....
