what can i do to get the nitrite lower ok or is that not possable with that many fish in a 20g cause i have to keep them in there until my main tank cycles all the way and in the main tank the nitrites did not even rise yet so i got at least a couple more weeks to go

How is the QT set up?

If the QT was not cycled or seeded with bacteria from the main tank this will usually be the result. Without a proper biological filter in place you need to be extra careful about feedings and cleaning up after the fish quite a bit. Make sure you only feed every second day in small amounts and be sure to syphon out any uneaten amounts and detritus. You might have better luck doing daily water changes to keep the levels down. How much will depend on how high the nitrites are are are now. Any sign of ammonia?

Cheers
Steve

I think you will find it is a combination of a dramatically increased bioload and feedings. Keep up with the water changes, ensure any filtration equipment is cleaned regularly in SW and feed very sparingly. Some nori for the tang to graze on and light feedings every second of third day should be fine for now. If the QT was cycled prior to the new additions, it should allow the biofilter to catch up soon enough.

Hopefully the main tank will be ready soon...

Cheers
Steve
