Fishless saltwater cycling question

I just got a 16gallon tank to start a saltwater aquarium. I bought 10 pounds of cured man made LR and 10 pounds of aragonite sand. I was going to do a fishless cycle with some ammonia, but the person said that I didn't need to use ammonia b/c the LR and the live sand were going to cycle my tank. Is this correct? Also, she told me that it was going to take about a week to cycle my tank. Is this correct as well? I thought it was going to take about 3 weeks to cycle.

The live rock will only aid you in the cycle. "live" sand is not live by the time you get it into you tank. To cycle with ammonia it will take around a month or so.
