Ok so here's the deal... I'm using RO/DI water from the local grocery store and have been using the same water for months...

The tank is around 8 months old and I've already gone through my initial diatom bloom....

Using Coralife salt

2.5ppm nitrates

everything else is good

and basically for the past month or so I've had a hideous bloom of diatoms on the glass, rocks, and sand..... O yeah... had a cyano breakout right before this that is now gone.

any ideas what's goin on with the tank??

O yeah and I have chaeto growing in the fuge along with a mangrove........

Could be freakin silicates which is the primary cause of diatom algae. Without it they cannot produce cell walls for their growth. If you have a good LFS, see if they can test the store bought RO/DI for it. If their DI is exhausted, it will allow silcates to pass through. The RO membrane cannot remove them.

Is it grainy/dusting algae or snot like?

Cheers
Steve
