It's a lot better. Anyway I would suggest to get a protein skimmer for the filtration and for the nitrate levels I would just tell you to wait for the tank to cycle first. It will go down because there isn't anything living in your tank, right?. If it is still high, then go to a fish store nearby and look for a nitrate " killer", I'm sure they have some chemicals to help you out. Hope I will hear from you, it's so cool that we are tank buddies!
Haha cool!!

I did get a protein skimmer, and waiting for the cycle to complete to use it.

There is nothing living in the tank (except for the hitchhikers) and I removed the shrimp for now to give the ammo a chance to drop. I don't want it going over 4 ppm because the cycle may stall.

I'm planning on taking a more natural approach for nitrate control by weekly water changes and chaeto

Update:

Ammo has steadily been dropping over the last couple days. It was 2 ppm yesterday, now it's .25 ppm nitrites are sky high. I'm at the end of the third shrimp

Eck, the one aiptasia anemone I had came back. Could I just turn the rock upside down so the thing is buried in the sand?

Whoo! Today's very promising readings:

Ammo: 0
Nitrite: 1
Nitrate: only 20!! I thought it would be through the roof by this point

Added the last shrimp today. Hopefully the Bb will keep up with the new ammo

It seems to have slowed down. Ammo is still at 0 after adding the shrimp but nitrites won't go down anymore. They dropped like more than half overnight Monday but now it's all staying the same

Everything looks pretty good. My cycle stalled once and then BAM! It kicked into high gear.

Also and this is just in my own experience. 2x's I've cycled a tank without any nitrites. I don't how or why, but I never saw them. And now my tanks are all fine.

I hope that happens with me too I know the nitrites dropped randomly in my fw tank too

No nitrites at all! That's awesome, nitrites seem to be a problem with cycling my tanks lol

You'll be fine. Your doing great so far. I haven't really understood why I never saw nitrites, this was a fish in cycle and it was stocked to the gills! Maybe because I did water changes like 2x's a day?

Ah... Who knows lol.
