Good or bad advice?

It's been quite hot wear I live recently and have been advised by lfs to put an air stone in my marine tank to help oxygenate the water, but as far as I'm aware this can be a bad thing if the bubbles were to get stuck under the gills

its bad for salt creep. you're skimmer should be enough to put oxygen in the water and if you have a lid, take it of for gas exchange.

if you keep your AC on then i wouldn't really worry about it though
