I feed my saltwater fish tank dead grass/ghost/glass shrimp because I have a blue trigger fish and I was told that if I fead him live ones he would get EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE so I put them in a freezer for a couple minutes and then give em to the fish when they r dead..... I get them fresh out of the chesapeke bay which is right in my back yard (waterfront ) and I was wondering if I put some bay water in my little five gallon tank which has a filter if I could keep the shrimp in there? Because going out and catching them a few times a week may be fun but is a pain... Just want to know how this would work out any help is super appreciated!!!

The reason you shouldn't use water from the bay would be because it is full of toxins and who knows what else.

It is sometimes possible to keep live food and have it reproduce within our tanks, but it can require a tank with some size and a refugium setup. The refugium would provide the safe haven for them to reproduce without having the entire population wiped out in a 24 hour period. But, it is qutie difficult to keep populations of shrimp as a hobbiest. If you don't want to go out and catch the shrimp anymore, I would suggest buying frozen mysis shrimp to feed your livestock.

I don't want to have a colony and have them reproduce and all I just want em to be able to live for three to four days so I can just scoop em out and feed my fish them at night time and all....
