Hi all,
My tank is up and running, finally. I added my liverock a few months ago and life is proliferating in my tank. I have a lot of green and white stuff growing on my glass. It looks pretty cool fluttering in the current. However, I am also starting to notice grey/black stuff forming on the sand. It's stringy stuff similar to what growing on my glass, but it's reavlly dark. Should I scoop it out? Also, I have a lot of brown algae growing on the front pane of glass. Is this a bad sign?

Thanks,
Phil

You are probably hitting your algae bloom. its probably going through its stages of Diatoms/Dinoflangeles/Cyano/valoria. Assuming you are using ro/di h20 and not overfeeding anything, its just the DOC from the rock curing in your tank the first few months. Now matter how much you cure or srubb your rocks you will have somewhat of an algae bloom/ Just monitor your phosphates. Or you can siphon it out.

MOst likely not a problem but keep an eye on it.
