You got any angled braces on it to stop side to side movement? You might want one or 2 cross braces... even just in the corner. (If you look at the pictures of my stand after I put the plywood on top that should give you an idea of what I mean)

Okay... a couple small braces on the inside from a leg to the top frame would probably be lots for that size... I would just hate for it to fall over one day. (P.S. I'm over cautious, just look at my stand... all 2"x8" glued together to make 4"x8")

could i run 2 x 150w mh, 4 x 54w t5 ho and be ok for most coral?
Yes that would be fine. I am assuming the T-5's are 54 watts HO. With that combo you could grow most anything. If you got any super light hoggers LOL you could just put them higher up. I must say I am sorry to catch your post so late. I just kind of glanced at the word "built" and just pasted over it I have no real experience with a sump and major plumbing.:rolleyes:

ive tried to wiggle the stand and it doesnt budge. maybe with the weight on top but at this point i doubt it. its pretty stout side to side, lets hope its just as stout top to bottom

yes they are 54w t5 high output.. ty for stopping by and looking. as for the plumbing i dont think ill have any problem with that as my dad is a retired plumber.

i should have the stand finished tomorrow. i lost one of the packages of hinges so i only got one door on. i like the stand. its not perfect and there are gaps and blimishes. but its my first ever wood project and it looks pretty decent. ill start ordering supplys in the next couple days or sunday monday on my days off.

My Dad used to tell me when I would make a project...If someone says why you did a project a certain way to just tel them "That's the way I wanted it". Good for you, It is a nice stand.
Most of all Have fun..............

just ordered 400 gallons of io salt and a refractometer from that fish place. they have a shipping deal going on and only paid 6.99 shipping.getting close to getting the cycle started i think. might have some rocks ready in a week or 2.

Wow, I must be tripping...When I first read your post I thought man how are they going to store 400 gallons of "Petco real Saltwater"? lol

i dont think i want to know what 400g of water shipped from petco would cost lol.

that fishplace has a deal for 6.99 everything shipped. my lfs has 200g of io salt for $91 a box. thatfishplace was 44.99 a box i think.
44.99 x 2 + 6.99 = good deal compared to lfs. add in the refractometer on the same 6.99 shiped im pleased.

my only advice on painting the tank is to be moving the can like you would when your paining before you start spraying. i have 2 runs from when i started spraying before moving.

and the view from my bad

ok question time. are the fish going to care when i make it day and night? the reason i ask is i work nights and my days off i try to stay on a night schedule as much as possible. so if i keep the lights on at night ill get to see my fish more. also i have black out currents on my window and if i turn on lights during the day it defeats the purpose of the black out currents.

Your fish won't care... the sun is their clock as long as it is dark (judging by the good drapes in your bed room it is) when the lite is off they will follow your "day". I haven't yet seen a fish with a timepiece.
