Because they are usually only kept in species only tanks because they are extremely docile and extremely slow. So any seahorses in a tank with fish not much faster than itself... will die from starvation. Unless you want to target feed the seahorse which again is a demanding task.

Seahorses are a little bit on the difficult side. They need to be in a species only tank and the water needs to be on the cool side. I tried it for a year but finally gave up on it. I have a seahorse log on the site somewhere if you want to find it.
 
That is very true, almost have to segregate them to feed them.

I know my LFS cant keep them in stock but again there are alot of species only tanks in businesses in my area.
 
Oh well I was just wondering because it says they are reef safe. But I understand why they wouldn't do well in a community tank.
