That'll work. If your ammonia and nitrites are at zero I would add pure ammonia then test again a day after you put it in. If ammonia is still at zero then you can start adding your fish and you'll be able to do so before Christmas Eve if you wanted.

As for the ammonia I believe some people went to lowes or Home Depot and bought theirs

I would think so. Just make sure it's pure ammonia. A way to tell is when you shake the bottle there should be no bubbles
