Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum as of 20 minutes ago and would like to say hello to everyone, as well as introduce myself. I have been in the process of starting a sw tank for the several weeks. So far, all I have been doing is reading alot and I did purchase some of the items such as a 55 gallon tank,stand,hood,ect. I also purchased a fluval 305 canister filter. my first question is: will this type of filtration system provide oxygen for the animals in the tank, or do I need another air source? Also, apart from this canister filter, do I need any other filtration equiptment? I am planing on setting up a FOWLF aquarium.

Welcome to AA. You`ll need to just have some good surface aggitation to aerate your tank. A good PH pointed slightly up to aggitate the surface will do the job. LR and a good skimmer is really all you need for good filtration. Read this for filtration basics

Welcome to AA!
As much LR as you can get/prefer is best for filtration. Like Mike said, protein skimmers are an excellent element in filtration as well. They make HOB versions if you decide not to plumb a sump/refugium, which IMO is the best setup for total reef filtration.
