HOB filter

hey guys i am thinking of adding a HOB filter to my 30g Reef tank.. what you guys think. i currently dont run any filter on my tank except a protine skimmer and 35lbs of LR. i just added a HOB filter to my tank on a temp bases. but i am very impressed with the work it does. i may get a much smaller one to share the space along the back of my tank with the protine skimmer.

is this a good idea or should i stear clear of HOB filters?

I run the penguin 350 series on my 10 and love it , it gives me room to house temp probs , heaters , and all my media , plus it gives me an extra 1gallon of water (aprox volume) which is very precious to our mini reef ... I just yanked the wheels (matter of opinion )

i like that filter but i need something a little smaller. i also have my skimmer on my tank and both wont fit.

How about a Marineland HOT Magnum canister filter?

I have one on my 46g and it takes up about 4-5" inches of width across the back. Good unit to run carbon/chemical filtration in.

I use what sadie was descibing but I do like Kurt`s suggestion too.

i like the canister idea, but i once had XP2 on my very first SW tank and found it to be the biggest peice of junk. that experience really didnt do much for canister filters. i find HOB filters to be the better buy, or was it just the brand i purchessed?
