I thought there were two different people commenting on the popping noises. I didn't realize it was the same person. No need to post a pic. I just misunderstood. (However, I WOULD like to see your mantis).
Approach it's tank slowly for a week. Every time you approach the tank slowly, drop a tiny piece of (thawed and rinsed and uncooked) shrimp from the grocery store in the tank. You will change from being the mean trapping person into the wonderful bringer of food. It could very well come out everytime you are around after that.
