Hey I'm new to salt water tank ownership and we just bought our tank tonight and were getting things started and were wondering how much live sand we need for a 36 gallon bowed tank?

Don't waste your money on it. You'll be fine with regular sand. Same with live rock. You can go 30 pounds base rock and 10-15 pounds live rock. And as for sand if you r trying to make a sandbed 1.5-2 inches deep maybe 50 pounds

The amount of sand you need really depends on the fish you want. Wrasses usually go under the sand to sleep so at least 3 inches. jawfish like to dig so you would need at least 4 inches, and not all sw tanks have sand and do just fine.
