how soon for corals?

I'm going to be making my 55g a reef. It was formerly a freshwater tank. Right now it just has dust.

How soon after I add rocks and water can I add corals?

That depends how long your cycle takes.

Yup. It could take a week or 2 months. Really depends.

OK. Thanks I'd been reading where some would say wait six months before anemones etc.

For anemones and other sensitive livestock yes, you should wait atleast 6 months. But once your cycle ends, you can slowly add livestock and could add a hardy coral.
