Hello all.

I've had my 55Gal saltwater tank running for about 2 months now.

it isnt too heavily stocked as ive only recently finished cycling it.
i have 4 Damsels, 1 Algae blenny, 2 peppermint shrimp, one emerald crab, and one blue legged hermit crab. and a few pieces of live rock.

for filtration i have a Fluval 405 canister, and a custom Wet/Dry
and do RWC every weeks

My question is how soon should i introduce a protein skimmer to the equation?
my LFS tells me that i dont really need the protein skimmer till about 3-4 months in when im more heavily stocked

U can put one in whenever u want. Mine has been in since i started the tank

Ideally, you should put it in right away. A protein skimmer will only help your tank. It also takes some time to dial in.

Will you be getting rid of your wet/dry and canister filter after the skimmer is in?
