How to keep skimmer out of sump?

Anyone have a diagram of how to keep the skimmer out of the sump? Want to keep out of the sump because once in sump/ in stand and tanks moved against wall = problems for long term. Inside stand H = 33".. Plus would leave room for nice refuge in my sump tank! : )
