I just got a spotted manderen and was wondering how to tell how many pods you have in the tank.

a lot depends on how old your tank is
if there is other stock in your tank you can be sure they have been munching on any pods you do have
I have a mandarin well over a year now I also have him trained to eat pellets and frozen
I also raise pods and add tons to the tank daily
I try to keep my guy plump and happy

If you use a flash light at night aim the light at the bottom of the rockwork, you should see hundreds of these little bug looking critters. Thats the best way to see if you have enough for a mandarin to survive long term if it isn't eating frozen or pellets.
