Is it truly possible to have a beautiful reef setup with a canister filter and no sump?

I want to do a sump but just dont have the room for it righ now until i move in a year or two.

100%. Just keep em clean. Adding a HOB skimmer would help also.

did that and also a small refugium to help with some extra nutrients in the water.

I gues the thing i dont like about not having a sump is all the crap hanging off my tank it looks like crap.
