it dosent add to the cycle, but is very fine and cheap 3-6dollars for 50 lbs, the only sand safe to use is aragonite based sands that lack silicates. i believe there are two brands people commonly use one is old castle the other im not sure of

I have never been able to get yard right or old castle sand in my area. I have just used the regular "play sand" and it is doing ok for me. I have not had any problems I can attribute to sand. I am sure the other sand would be better, but regular playsand will do ok.

Can playsand be made live?
I am just starting up a 20 gallon fowlr here and was curious. Jeff

When you add the live rock, it will seed the sand with life.

Should have the playsand by this afternoon. Thought I had some at home but found it had all been played with. Jeff
