Is regular sand okay

S sand from the department store okay to use on the bottom of my tanks cause the closest fish place is 2 hours aways

Not sure what that sand would be, but pool filter sand is sold at Home Depot or Lowe's for pretty cheap. 50 lbs. is like $10 or something.

I read that would turn into live sand?

Yeah, it will become live in a little while. Probably a few months.
