Just curious of some methods to slow down the amount of water evaporation. I have a customer hood but its not fully closed, open in the back for the pipes.
I sorta have covers over my sumps.
How much water loss is normal?

1-2 gallons a day depending on individual set up and tank size. I lose a gallon a day without having a sump. It's not something you really want to curtail either. Evap helps cool the tank and allows for chemstry corrections when using kalkwasser or other additives. Aside from that, closing in the hood without a sump would hamper the pH level due to trapped CO2 issues. Even then, the sump is uncovered so the evap would be pretty much the same.

Cheers
