Just got is some new Lalo Live Rock... Wow!

Maybe I’ve just never seen nice live rock before, but I had to pull out my camera for the order I got today. I ordered 60lbs of Lalo rock from LiveAquaria.com.

My order arrived as 2 boxes with 6 rocks total. Approx weights: 1 huge 25+ pounder, 1 @ 18, 1 @ 12 and 3 small ones @ 3 - 5lbs. ea. No, I didn't weigh the individual rocks, but I did weigh the entire order (just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off... I got 63 lbs total).

If you figure the cost of rock per gallon you need, the Lalo rock is cheaper per gallon than the "Select Fiji Premium" due to it's lower density. This leads to a cheaper shipping cost. According to their site, you need ~.5lb/gal less of the Lalo rock to do the same thing as the Fiji.

Will all of the sponges and fans die off or will some come back?

All Pics were taken after I rinsed and scrubbed all the rocks. I'll post mor pics if anyone replies.

Good stuff! You have a fair amount of die-off on that second rock though( the big one!)....Try you best o get all that black stuff off before you start curing. It'll help. Peace_

It barely smelled at all. After I finished handling them my hands did need some heavy duty stink removal. And... that's a white towel... the crusty salty one I keep around for maintenance,

When I took the top off of the curing container today it smelled pretty pungent.

Should I keep the top off to let it breath? Should I add an air stone?

There is a heater and powerhead in the container.

I was going to move the rock to the tank as soon as the paint dries on the back of it and i put it on the stand.


Anything else needed?

I wouldn’t keep the lid on personally since it will cause your CO2 to rise and your ph will crash. Are you keeping a check on the ph/nh3/no2/no3 levels? I hope you are curing in SW

Yes, this was supposed to be an upgrade to my 29g, but I wanted to get too many fish that were incompatible with my existing fish. So, I finally caved and this is going to be a completely new setup wit all new equipment. I had intended to do the entire curing in the tank and cycle the tank like that, but parts didn't come in at the right times and that whole work thing keeps interfering with my reef time.

Are you keeping a check on the ph/nh3/no2/no3 levels?

I'm a sucker for spreadsheets. I make one to keep track of anything you could ever think of.
