With your LR it should range any were from 1.5- 2LBS per Gallon. Your wattage for lighting should be around 4 watts per gallon just depending on how many watts you really want but if you have 48" 260 should be enough, but I would recommend a Nova Extreme Pro for my lighting IMO....

Another question... what is the difference between base rock and live rock? do they both have the good bacteria and one is just prettier than the other?

Base rock is liverock but it doesnt have all the colors on it...I think that (for me at least) Live rock (such as reef rock, turf rock etc) is the best, it is the prettiest and all around best for aquariums.



It is also cheaper

Base rock is dry that has no life on it whatsoever. LR is wet rock that has life still in it. They both need to be cured and both will become live with nitrifying bacteria in the long run. The LR usually has different types of life like sponges and dusters and various other inverts in it.

what about "foundation" rock... what is the deal with that?
