Last minute questions before LR arrives

I'm (still) a noob, but I don't necessarily agree that water changes prolong the cycle. I think when you syphon off water from the tank you are pulling free-floating nutrients, but the vast vast majority of your beneficial bacteria are on the surface area of your rock and sand.

That said, change or no change, the LR.com rock seems to cycle very quickly.

I am not sure it will prolong the cycle, I was just stating fact that the hight the ammonia the more die off, therefore raising the ammonia even higher. The only way to lower the ammonia is to change water.
