has anyone posted any data about degradation over time? how about color shift? yes, they stay lit for X amount of years, but do they still look the same after a couple/few years?

How would anyone know ? led is such a new tech and the model and abilitys of the led changes with each generation or basicly yearly. Just look at the jump the XM-L are over the previous generations .

The nice thing about the DIY is that you can replace your led's as needed. Just screw them in and unscrew them when your ready to upgrade.

Also with the way they are scaling with each generation you could get along with fewer and fewer leds .

Its like anything else , at some point the leds will have to be replaced. It seems from users in the field that it will be many years vs every year for traditional types of aquarium lighting
