Lighter live coral changing color

It's turning a golden brown with a little algae. I'm assuming that's good? It is live coral, the guy I bought it from took it right out of his tank

what coral are you talking about? the green zoanthids at the bottom of that rock? the rock seems to be getting covered with diatoms.
 
Going by the pic you posted, you have alot of diatoms growing, which is usually a sign of a new tank and/or high silicates. No inverts really eat diatoms. How long has the tank been running?
 
I'm referring to the live rock at the top of the tank. It's been up about 3 wks. Are diatoms good or bad?

Diatoms are normal in a new tank , they will vanish on their own.
