I had to give up on the idea of alternate (to my main) lighting for my HOB. Way too much light in the main.

Of course it depends on what you're using your hob for. If it's for an algae filter, than I'd say 24-7 is the way to go. If you're using it as an acutal 'fuge to build up pod populations etc. I think reverse photoperiod is the way to go. Since the bugs are nocturnal by nature I believe they will breed better if they can be in the dark some times.

On my last tank I had caul. lit 24-7 and it grew very well and never went sexual with the exception of the week I went to reverse photoperiod. It went sexual in about 2 days. In my new I have some caul. growing in my main with 12/12 photoperiods. It so far has shown no signs of going sexual. So in my case it may have been the change in lighting that set it off.

Grape caluerpa is the worst, I had it go sexual in my tank 3 times while running my lights for 14 hrs. I went 24/7 and took out the grape and went with a mexicana and cheato and have not problems. I run my other fuge for around 13 hours with a blade caluerpa and have no problems with it going sexual.

Not to hijack, but I think this would be beneficial to know as well in this thread...how much and what type of lighting do you all use for fuges as I am having issues with my macro growing....I have a 20 watt bulb over mine....its growing but slow...
