I have 2 energy saver light bulbs (23w=100w) for my 50 gallon aquarium. I have java moss, another moss and another lower light plant (forget the name).

2 questions:

1. Is that lighting sufficient?
2. Would lighting made for aquariums be any better? If so, why?

Thanks

But to answer your question, java moss doesn't need much, I have a fluval edge with the stock bulbs ( like 2 three watt halogen bulbs) and it grows java moss fine, I have a couple other plants in there that seem to do well also. But you will probably get a better answer in another (planted tank) forum.
And to answer your other question , not so much lighting made for aquariums but bulbs for growing plants would help, because they produce more of the spectrum of light that plants need to grow.
