Live rock

I'm setting up a new salt water aquarium but I've been researching and I am a little confused. I've seen people put love rock in there sump what is the best place for this is it not in your tank?

I have most of mine in tha tank but also some in the sump, it's the bulk of the filtration in a sw aquarium as it host most of your beneficial bacteria, more rock, equals more bacteria, equals cleaner water, the rock in your sump is almost purely for filtration whereas the rock in the display tank also has asthetic purposes, too much rock in the tank may not give you the look you want so you just put the rest in the sump

You need some in the main tank as it provides hiding places for the fish and inverts. It also provides shelves that your corals can sir on and grow.
