Living phytoplankton

Should I turn off all my pumps when feeding my invertebrates and filter feeders? I am using living phytoplankton, I am not sure whether to turn off all my pumps or just my protein skimmer..
Thanks..

I have been told to turn off the pumps to make sure that all of it gets to your tank and isnt eaten by the filter.
