Lps and sps

Can anyone explain what, in simple terms are lps and sps corals, done some research but am getting conflicting answers.Thanx

Large polyp stony( lps) torch,frog spawn, stone part is the base.Polyp is long and wavy,Small polyp stony (sps) arcoporas, montipora . Polyp is small. Sps need more light and better water quality but like everything else there are some that are easier.
