Some people use zip-ties to stabalize the rock, some don't. I figured that rocks in the ocean are zip-tied, why should I do that to mine? I just balanced mine out, and it seemes to be working ok, but then again, it has only been in there for 24hours. (If you want, go to www.photobucket.com and search mrtits. I have a folder with a few pictures there.

But here is the key thing, I'm a :censor: NEWB

I think the concensus is that you don't really need (much) live sand (if any at all). Your sand will seed from your LR. If you really want some live sand, you could buy some from www.tampabaysaltwater.com or www.liverocks.com or www.reeftopia.com or ... well you get the idea. How about some garf grunge from www.garf.org? Buy the bulk of your sand locally. Southdown is a popular home depot children's play sand that is the same as the sand made for aquarium use (but TONS cheaper)!
