Making your own LR

Hi ppl,

Has anyone made their own [acronym:d97f79a893="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:d97f79a893]? Was it a success? I was just surfing the net and came across this web:

http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dyn...ementRock.html

Not sure if it works.. let me know of your opinion?

I can't look at your link, but sure you can make your own [acronym:c5e272c0a8="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:c5e272c0a8]. I've never done it, but it is how aquacultured [acronym:c5e272c0a8="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:c5e272c0a8] comes about. Cement figures, limestone rocks...anything that is porous and non-reactive with saltwater can become host to beneficial bacteria and invertebrates.

It's a long and labourious process that requires numerous water changes as you cure the Agarocrete. If you've got the time it can be rewarding with the various shapes you can make but otherwise a PITA.

Buying some dead base rock that is porous and a little bit of good quality live rock for seeding can save you a lot of money and is very easy to do. It just takes some time for the dead rock to gain some life.

That is what I did. All rock becomes [acronym:4ef3d44481="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:4ef3d44481] over time. If you seed it well with existing [acronym:4ef3d44481="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:4ef3d44481] it will speed up the process.
