Media for Canister filter? (FOWLR)

Hi, I would like to add my Eheim 2317 canister filter to my existing FOWLR filtration system.

What filter media should I use? I suspect if I use the regular fresh water filter media, it may increase nitrates...

Suggestions?

Live rock rubble... IMO

I use lr rubble and purigen.

no need for bio balls or the sponge pads or any of that?

I take out my sponges. You can keep them in, but make sure you rinse them in your old PWC water. I would use the rubble in place of the bioballs.
