Hi,

I need help. My hubby and I are building a custom marine reef setup. I have help from a local fish guy. Tank is about 100 gal with a 20 g sump and 20 g refugium. custom overflow box and custom sumps... EVERYTHING IS CUSTOM.... Or at least homemade. My fish guy brought a catalina? pump. it says 1350gal per hour with a 4m head. we did a trial run and holy cow that's alot of water going through the system!!! Personally it looks like way too much water circulation. I will also have 2 750 powerheads and possibly 2 425 correlias.
My question is this... How big of a pump should I put in the sump?

Thanks

BTW We are pretty new to all this

Depends on how much flow your overflow can handle. In my 125g I have a 1200gph overflow and a return pump rated at 1500gph but I have a ball valve in line to throttle it back. Always better to have a bit too much flow than too little. I'm also using 2 koralia 1400's and might add two 750's to the mix if I have my way. lol

We stuck with what we had and it turned out great! Thanks all!!
