Why not keep some sort of media in the main tank until you need the QT, and just use that media, instead of setting up a whole new tank, just for bacteria?
That's what I do. I have an extra ac30 hob filter going on my FOWLR tank. If I need to set up the QT, I switch it over to it. My QT is only a 10g at this point.
