Went out and bought a new Octopus protein skinner...I was carrying it down the hallway when the lid slid off hit the floor and broke in half!!!

Oh no! that totally stinks! Maybe you can return it and say it was broken in the box? Not the most moral way to go but an option.....

Bummer for sure. If it is acrylic don't try to supper glue it. Get a tube of weld on. Your LFS may have it or you can order it on line. I was about to order on line when I saw that one of my LFS had it. It isn't cheap but it will work.
