K I want to start a saltwater tank and have no idea what I need/should do.

I have two freshwater tanks and can easily get my hands on another tank. What do I need to start with and to keep going.

Tyvm in advance

Well with fowlr its pretty much the same idea as setting up a FW tank. Do you have a certain fish in mind that you wanted to keep?

Well first you need to read everything you can. Starting without knowing anything is a good way to run into problems.

However you will first need to decide a few things. 1) what size tank? 2) reef or fish only with live rock? 3) stock

This will decide what lighting and filtration you need along with flow. Planning your stock will help avoid problems. Pick your mist have fish and plan the tank size etc around that fish.

Here a list to get you started:
Ro/di water (buy your own unit to save $)
Tank
Live rock
Sand
Heater
Skimmer
Powerheads
Thermometer
Test kits (ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alk, calcium, magnesium, phosphate)
Lights (t5's, metal halide, LED?)
Gravel vac
Extra siphon tubing
Buckets
Food
Algae brush/magnet
Raw shrimp (for cycle)
Turkey baster
Carbon/GFO reactor?
Utility pump? (for water changes)
Salt mix
Spare pump and heater to mix and heat new saltwater.
Power strips
Level (for leveling out tank before filling)
Stand
Sump?

Just for starters, not all are need but can/will make life easier.
