tank is a 55 gal with 30 gal sump/fuge, 4 fish in it are 2 clowns,1 blue tang, and a royal grama. temp is always 80 i use a skimmer,3 powerheads, filter sock, and have a 4-54watt t5 setup on timers.. blues come on at 10:30 am then daylights come on at 11:00am then daylights go off at 9:30pm and blues go out at 10:00pm.. i keep getting this slime build up on the sand, but it is only on the left side of the tank, and never in the fuge. any idea why its doing this??

its cyano,it means you have excess nutrients. vacuum it up with a gravel vac and feed less

ok but if i only feed once a week if i remember, where else could it be coming from??

You need to reduce your daylights to eight hours max.Feeding only once a week is to little, try every other day awhile.

Fish waste might be building up, although since it's only on one side of the tank, I'd try to make more flow on the side which the cyano is

ok ill adjust the powerheads and set light time down to 8 hours and see what happens...

i was feeding every other day for a while and some said it was too much, so i went to once a week

My water reading were great and I still got it. LFS said they get it from time to time. I tried adjusting power heads still had it. Just got some erythromycin powder and this took care of it. Used a half dose and then after 72 hours used the other half. Had to turn off skimmer and remove media. All live stock are doing great. Will do 20 percent water change after 5 days, start up skimmer, run carbon. After after one week, do another 20 percent water change if high nitrates and start dosing bacteria until bottle is gone. So far so good.
