Yep. I decided to take the leap. Gonna put it next to my desk at work. Red head goby most likely, 3 hermits, 2 snails, and reef, reef, & reef.

When I saw this unit, I fell in love with it. $67 but I still need a 5" or less heater. Th lfs is ordering a few. They had a 2g version also, but it was only 2" smaller. 18w 50/50. Deco Kit 3 from Aquarium Aquatics.

I'm pumped. Will update next week with the tank going. Will do rock, sand and maybe even water from my 155g @ home and get this party started!

The 7.5w hydor is not thermostaticly regulated. A 50watt would be fine, it just wouldn't have to run very long each cycle. At least it would operate on a thermostat. I think there are a few small titanium heaters as well. Let us know what you end up using and how well it works!

oh how cool! I know someone who did this with a 2.5 and it turned out amazing! I would like to do this with my 5 gall also HEHEHE so I will be following your thread!

Love the all acrylic tanks. Great price too Ray :D Was this a lfs purchase or do they sell them online as well? Do you know the name brand?

a 50 watt heater should be fine, I used one in my 5 gallon, but my 5 gallon was able to fit a normal sized heater :/ The smallest controlled heaters I have found are like 7 inches tall, saw some at either petco or petssmart, tehy where not fully submersible though.

I've got a couple of these and they're pretty small. I'll measure one for you in a bit. http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp18534/si1378917/cl0/allglasssubmersibleheater50watt

I've got a rena cal basic 50w submersible as well, but it's substantially larger than the AGA/Hydor. Aquarium Systems has a small looking 25w submersible, but I don't have any first-hand experience with the brand. I like my Hydors.
