Hey all, started my first marine aquarium 6 weeks ago. My live rock (25ish kilos) still seems pretty poor. There was no colour to it at all when I added it and certainly no signs of life. 6 weeks in and there's not much difference.... is this right? I only ask because I've seen pics and vids of setups about the same age and they look much more colourful... my tank has cycled and all tests remain fine, started stocking at the end of week 4.

it takes a while to see it color up. also, coralline algae (what makes the rock purple) won't grow on it unless it's introduced. if those other setups had a lot of coralline algae on the rock, they will appear more colorful.
try shining a flash light at the substrate through the glass late at night after the lights go out. i'm sure you'll see little things swimming around.
