I am just ordering the glass for a new glass tank. I am going to use 1/2" glass and do a 48x24x38 (LxBxH) tank. This will be my first attempt at making my own tank!! All the instructions I have read have said to have the tank sit on the front, back and sides, and to raise the bottom by about 1/4". Will the silicone on the bottom support the weight?

Acrylic is not an option as it is not available here.

One of the reasons I belive to rase the bottom is to aleavate the potental for pressure points. If you have a flat bottom and the tank sits on this bottom should something come between the bottom glass and what ever its sitting on then that would become a pressure point and if great enough the bottom would fail.
