Just got an aquaticlife skimmer. Been running for about 10 hours. Is the waste water still supposed to be clear? When will it start collecting the brown stuff?

I think that it just needs some time to fully break in. 
Give it a few days, and if it does not begin collecting waste by then, you may have a problem.

You might also have too much air going in causing the skimmer to just pump up water instead of skimming. Give it a few more days and then try to dial back the air some.
