New Sump

Hi all! Just installed my new sump. I have been running on canister filters. I'm wondering how long should I leave the canisters running before I remove them and use the sump only. Thanks in advance for helpful input. Skeeter

i'd say abotu a month so that the sump can cycle or put live rock and everythign in the sump and set it all up but have the return pump just cycle back into the sump so that it can naturally cycle and establish itself

I would run it for 2 or 3 months to be absolutely safe.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I will continue as i have been for a coupla more months. It will give me time to add more lr.I was told the filter socks were washable .Wonder if I can get some different ideas how to do that? Thanks Skeeter

when you do PWC use that water to rinse off the socks as not to kill any bacteria off the sock, same as how you would do filter pads and sponges. only time you should change a filter is if it is damaged or badly worn
