I have a 55 gallon fw tank I'm dismantling it to convert it to saltwater if my dreams come true I'm gonna upgrade to a 90 gallon but of not I'm gonna stick with the 55.

I have questions I have a fluval 404 cannister filter...... What media do I need for it

I have a dual t5 ho light system what bulbs should I have.

I'm going to get live rock and corral along with crabs and snails for my clean up crew so I'm trying to decide the best stuff for my 55 just in case.

Your gonna need another light if you want corals, sorry but a two bulb t5 over a 55 wont support corals

4 is a good start, I have a 46 bowfront with a 2 bulb and kept lps and softies with growth. Good bulbs ati or greissman make a difference. Just upgraded to LEDs so if buying new spent a little more it will save money in the long run.if you have a 2 bulb use it but plan on adding in the future.

Well here it is I sold my 55 gallon tank and got my 72 gallon bow front up and running got a 4 light t5 ho system with a 4 led night light

Here's some pics.

Hi.. Ok live saltwater is different to freshwater or tropical.. In you canister filter... Take all your bioballs out.. Just leave a sponge and carbon.. Leave an extra chamber empty.. Il tell you why ina. Moment. The live rock or just rock will be like your bioballs.. This will break down ammo ia etc.. The filter can clean your tank of dirt in the tank. Now when you keeping just fish its a little easier.. When it comes to corals it gets a little more advanced lol. To keep corals you want your nitrate and phosphates as low as possible phosphates will kill your corals. To avoid this happending do water changes 10 -20% every week.. DONT put too many fish in and dont over feed.. And make sure you clean the sponge out in your filter everyweek too.. Let it dry a little and squeeze as much of the dirt you can. Now after running uour tank for a couple of months you may come across a few algea prpblems.. In this case youl want to put some sort of phosphate media in your last chamber of your canister ;-) this is the way youl be able to run a reef

Thanks but my tank has a sump filter and it has been up and running for years I moved it here with all the media and 75 percent of the water too. This is an established tank I will watch it closely. If I send a pic of my sump you'll see the big drawers where could I find this phosphate media. I've got a filter in drawer 1 I've got bio balls in drawer 2 and in drawer 3 I've got live sand, love rock and a love plant
