I looked at a thread I was subscribed to and they run their octopus in 7" of water

Wow, mine is sitting in 12" of water... Now I gotta figure out how to raise it 5"...

i was told 8"-10" is optimal. i made a little eggcrate box held together with zipties to raise the skimmer.

that's when it weas breaking in, but yes, it will be a mix of water and organics, depending on how you have it dialed in.
