New to Reefs!!!!

I am to say that I have gotten the nerve to try a mini reef setup.... I am looking for any type of assistance in the setup of the tank... I have the following equipment that I am using:

30 gallon long tank
emporer 400( for mechanical/biological/chemical)
150 Watt Ebo Jager heater
corallife 192 watt lighting with one 10,000K and one actinic

I was told by my LFS that this type of setup could succeed as long as I was using live rock and live sand....I just don't know exactly how much live rock and live sand I really would need .... Please help?????

-You can use anywhere from 1" to 4" of LS (actually I would use dead sand and seed it with a couple of lbs of LS).
-LR 1-1.5 lbs per gallon is recommended.

If your using the LR and LS, the emporer filter is not recommended, you could remove the wheels and the cartridges and use it for waterflow, but it isn't necessary for biological filtration. Check out [b]this link[b].

Another suggestion I have is to add a skimmer to your list of equipment, for your size tank I would recommend a CPR bakpak skimmer (skimmer only) or the Aqua-C remora.
